Radford Park Rangers Football Club were formed in 1973 in the bar of The Nottingham Arms, Radford by Garry Taylor, Tony Wright and Ray Cotton. They were admitted to the newly formed Morning Section of the Notts Sunday Football League for the start of the 1974/75 season.
They made a very inauspicious start to life, ending thier first season in last place in the bottom of the section and the following year fared little better, finishing 11th out of 12. However, with the popularity of sunday morning football growing rapidly, new divisions were being added all the time and for the 1976,77 season, Radford found them-selves in the Senior Section. Radford then spent a total of seven seasons in the Senior section during which time thier league placing steadily improved untill in the 1982/83 season when they took the Runners Up spot in Division 2.
Radford were promoted to Division 4 of the Premier section and 3rd place at the end of the season was enough to gain promotion to Division 3 and again immediate promotion was gained as the 1984/85 Runners Up. 1985/86 brought local fame as they won the Radford Cup and in 1986/87 Radford were Runners Up in Division 2, thus continuing thier rapid rise through the Premier Section, with promotion to Premier Division I.
Thier finest season was to follow in the 1987/88 season. Under the guidance of John Smith and the late Dave Mayes Radford were Premier Division 1 Champions, Premier Section Cup Finalists, Notts Sunday Senior Cup Finalists and Radford Cup Finalists. In the two major Cup Finals Radford were beaten by the legendary Rolls Royce Celtic, which gave them the Treble. Radford established themselves as a force in the Premier section and were regularly finishing in the top four.
However, with the team getting older and players retiring Radford fell on hard times and were relegated, quickly ending up in Division 2. The then Manager Garry Taylor and Chairman John Smith took the task on of rebuilding the team and in the 2000/01 season Radford were crowned Champions of Division 2 and in the following season were Runners Up in Division 1 and promoted back to the Premier Division.
Hard times appeared again in the 2004/05 season with Radford relegated after a dreadful season and the following season no better with the resignation of Player Manager Paul Rawden. After a short spell back at the helm Smith and Taylor decided that new blood was required and appointed Matt Farmer as team manager with ex Radford player Nick Bagnall as his assistant. Farmer recruited 6 or 7 young players for the following season and along with the older players finished in the lower part of Division 1.
2007/08 started well but quickly turned into chaos as Radford were constantly struggling to field 11 players and on two occasions could not even raise a team, which was unheard of in Radfords proud history. Farmer resigned and with the re-appointment of popular Manager Paul Rawden in the January Radford never looked back. 7 wins from 9 games saw Radford back in the big time with Promotion gained in the last game of the season.
Radford were back in the Prem Prem for the 2008/09 season and after a good start the club only won 1 game in the 2nd half of the season but this was still enough for a 9th place finish, Radford staying up by one point. Paul Rawden resigned at the end of the season and Carl Taylor was promoted from assitant manager. Radford are looking to build for the 2009/10 season and yet again establish themselves in Nottingham's top Sunday League.
